Thanks everyone for your helpful input. I'm pretty sure now that we will be ordering a NEW Kirsten from AG soon. I think Jillian will be very excited with any Kirsten, but I like the idea of the doll being new and Jillian being the first little girl to love the doll. I agree that with eBay the prices aren't that much of a difference and there is always a chance that the item doesn't meet expectations.
When we made the Kirsten Savings Chart I figured in the accessory set and the shipping--$110 total. She's actually saved $90 now so if we just get the doll and paperback book for $87 and use the FREE shipping code--she has enough. I recently purchased a lot of Kirsten clothing items on eBay that had her bonnet, handkerchief and spoon bag and spoon. The only thing missing is the necklace so I'll just order that as a replacement part sometime.
AsianAG, your idea about me getting a PM Kirsten for me at some point has crossed my mind. That way I could take my time and find one on eBay that looked really nice.
Thanks again.

I like Mattel dolls better. I know probably no one else thinks this way, but they look newer for longer I think. This may not be true, but I think it may be.

Apparently some people like Mattel dolls too!
I have a Samantha from 2001 and she was one of the dolls with PM features (I can't call it PM because she was from 2001 so I am having some troulb explaining! LOL) and she was almost bald when she got sent to the doll hosptial this January. I personally love her new, darker, curlier hair. So I would go with a M doll.....

I don't care for Mattel Kirsten at all, I think she's ugly compared to my beautiful friend Kirsten. Why don't you show your daughter pictures and ask if she wants a brand new doll or one that has been loved by someone else.

I have a PM Kirsten that DH got from ebay and gave me for Christmas. I love her because he got her for me but... 1) her hair is very dry even after a downy dunk and steaming, 2) She has a greenish cast to her skin. DD just love the silkiness of a new dolls hair too. My vote is new for DD and PM for you .

I have a PM Kirsten.
She was my favorite (and really only, until Sara) doll when I was a kid. I played with her really carefully, because I understood she was expensive and special, but as I've posted before, her braids are DEFINATLEY not as nice as a new doll. If I were a little girl and worked hard for a new doll, I'd want one with nice hair, especially since Kirsten's hair is so special (tell me you don't love her braids).
I guess what I'm saying is I love my PM Kirsten, and she's in awesome condition for a ten year old doll, but I wouldn't expect your daughter too. Heck, I somehow doubt MY daughter will like her. (I thought my mom's favorite doll was scary looking when I was little.)
